On January 30, 2023, at approximately 10:12 p.m., Winston-Salem police responded to reports of a shooting on Geneva Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered 35-year-old Demetrius Alexander Williams suffering from a gunshot wound in a parking lot. He was promptly transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigations revealed that Williams had been involved in an altercation with another individual in the parking lot, which escalated into the fatal shooting. The incident marked the ninth homicide in Winston-Salem for the year 2023, a concerning increase compared to four homicides during the same period in the previous year.

On February 13, 2023, authorities arrested 21-year-old Tyshaun Martrez Stevenson in Thomasville, North Carolina, in connection with Williams's death. The arrest was made with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force. Stevenson was charged with murder and placed in the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center without bond.

Demetrius Williams was originally from Fort Pierce, Florida, where he attended local schools before relocating to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to pursue a career as a truck driver. He is survived by his children: son Demetrius Williams Jr., and daughters Breanna, Demetria, and De’lan Williams. His passing was deeply mourned by family and friends, who remembered him for his kindness and dedication to his loved ones.
