On the evening of April 1, 2023, 17-year-old Ariyonna Fountain was fatally shot outside her home in Greensboro, North Carolina. Ariyonna, a student at Grimsley High School, was attending a family gathering at her residence on Ogden Street when, shortly before 10 p.m., an unknown number of suspects fired multiple shots toward the house. She was struck while on the front porch and succumbed to her injuries early the following morning.
Described by her family as "a light in everyone's life," Ariyonna was known for her bubbly personality and her ability to bring happiness to those around her. She was actively involved in her school's choir and had aspirations that included getting closer to God, obtaining her first car by age 18, and graduating high school.
In response to her tragic death, friends and classmates organized a private memorial service at Grimsley High School to honor her memory. Additionally, students from Grimsley and Page High Schools staged a walkout on April 5, 2023, to protest gun violence and demand action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
