Upon arrival, officers discovered 59-year-old Aubrey Redding Jr. lying in the roadway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to UNC Health Wayne for medical treatment but was later pronounced deceased.
The Goldsboro Police Department's Investigative Services Bureau promptly initiated an investigation into the shooting. Aubrey Redding Jr., born on July 23, 1963, was a resident of Goldsboro. He was remembered by family and friends during a celebration of life held on April 28, 2023, at St. James AME Zion Church in Goldsboro. He was laid to rest on May 1, 2023, at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
