Jeffrey Devon Williams, a 37-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on March 8, 2022, in Goldsboro, North Carolina. The incident occurred at 252 Wisteria Road, where Goldsboro Police responded to a shooting call. Upon arrival, officers discovered Williams suffering from a single gunshot wound. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
The investigation into Williams' death led to the arrest of two suspects.
Iyanla Cherry, a 20-year-old woman, was taken into custody for an open count of murder. She was apprehended during a traffic stop in the 300 block of North George Street by members of the Goldsboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit. Cherry was confined to the Wayne County Jail without bond, and her first court appearance was scheduled for March 21, 2022.
Additionally, a 14-year-old juvenile suspect was also charged with an open count of murder in connection with the incident. The juvenile was apprehended at the intersection of North George and Pearson streets by the Goldsboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit. The juvenile was transported to Pitt Regional Juvenile Detention Center under a secure custody order.
The arrests came 10 days after the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing. The Goldsboro Police Department continues to seek information from the public to aid in their investigation.
