On April 16, 2023, at approximately 10:40 p.m., deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting in the 3300 block of King Charles Road in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 33-year-old Timothy James Shannon suffering from a gunshot wound. Shannon was promptly transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
In the ensuing investigation, authorities identified 35-year-old Fayetteville resident Glenn Richard Tedder II as a person of interest. Initially sought for questioning, Tedder was later named as the primary suspect in Shannon's death. On June 1, 2023, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office obtained a warrant charging Tedder with first-degree murder. Additionally, 34-year-old Joshua David McQuage of Raeford was sought for questioning in connection with the case.
A collaborative effort involving the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, the Fayetteville Police Department, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation led to Tedder's arrest on June 8, 2023. Beyond the first-degree murder charge, Tedder faced multiple charges, including larceny of a motor vehicle, three counts of habitual larceny, three counts of possession of stolen goods, and three counts of conspiracy. Following his arrest, Tedder was held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center, with his initial court appearance scheduled for June 9, 2023.
