Cal Drumgoole, a 29-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on the night of April 22, 2021, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The incident occurred at a residence on Newark Avenue, where officers responded to a call just before 9 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Drumgoole severely injured but still alive. Despite their efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The investigation quickly led to the arrest of Andrew Malik Wells, a 27-year-old African American male, who was present at the scene when first responders arrived. Wells was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. Authorities confirmed that the incident was not random, as Drumgoole and Wells were known to each other.
Wells was taken into custody and held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond. The Fayetteville Police Department urged anyone with additional information to come forward to aid in the investigation.
