Fahd Mjalli, a 41-year-old man from Fayetteville, NC, was tragically shot and killed on October 2, 2016. The incident occurred outside a home in the Fairfield Farms subdivision in northern Fayetteville. Mjalli, who lived on the 500 block of West Summerchase Drive, was involved in an argument with his nephew and business partner, Mohammed Alradai, 32.
The argument escalated, leading to Alradai fatally shooting Mjalli with a handgun.
Mjalli and Alradai were business partners in an illicit synthetic cannabinoid business. On June 8, 2016, Fayetteville police executed a search warrant at their tobacco shop, Tobacco Life, located at 616 N. Reilly Road. During the search, police found 2.42 pounds of synthetic cannabinoids and a handgun. The business was one of four searched that day by police in a sting operation targeting businesses illegally selling synthetic marijuana, also known as spice.
Alradai accused Mjalli of stealing money from their business, which led to the fatal argument. Following the shooting, Mjalli was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. Alradai was charged with first-degree murder and was taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center, where he was held without bail. In addition to the murder charge, Alradai faced outstanding warrants for trafficking synthetic cannabinoids and conspiracy.
The investigation into Mjalli's death revealed the extent of their involvement in the synthetic marijuana trade. Police had previously made purchases from their business, which were confirmed to be synthetic cannabinoids through testing. The case highlighted the dangers and legal consequences associated with the illegal sale of synthetic drugs.
