On April 26, 2023, at approximately 4:45 p.m., deputies from the Halifax County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting near Kincaid Drive and Ted Court, off Highway 48 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 37-year-old Desmond Lamar Sloan, a resident of Chesapeake, Virginia, deceased in the front seat of an SUV.
