On May 2, 2023, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Fayetteville police responded to a shooting incident in the 1200 block of Kienast Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered 30-year-old Terence Malcolm Malik Hogue in the driver's seat of a parked vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite prompt attention, Hogue was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations revealed that Hogue had been involved in an altercation with an acquaintance inside the vehicle, which escalated, leading to
the fatal shooting. The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Fayetteville resident, Jermaine Tyrone Cartrette. Authorities issued warrants for Cartrette's arrest, charging him with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was considered armed and dangerous, prompting a coordinated search effort by the Fayetteville Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service.
On May 8, 2023, following a tip from a concerned citizen, law enforcement located and apprehended Cartrette without incident. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with Hogue's death. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting remains ongoing, as authorities continue to piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident.
