Giovanni Griffin, a 23-year-old Black male, was tragically killed in a shooting incident on May 15, 2018, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. at an apartment complex located in the 6000 block of Willowbrook Drive. Giovanni Griffin and Deanna Robinson, a 25-year-old Black female, were both found suffering from gunshot wounds inside the apartment.
They were immediately transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where Giovanni Griffin succumbed to his injuries, while Deanna Robinson was listed in fair condition.

On June 5, 2018, Fayetteville police announced the arrest of Donavin Levon Boomer, a 25-year-old male, in connection with the shooting. Boomer was apprehended in Huntington Station, New York, by the United States Marshals Service. He was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and first-degree burglary. Authorities believe that Giovanni Griffin and Deanna Robinson knew Boomer, which led to the targeted nature of the attack.
