On May 7, 2023, at approximately 1:32 a.m., 27-year-old Ni'Reash Rayshaun Timmons was fatally shot during a drug transaction at a residence on the 1900 block of Palomino Drive in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Timmons, a resident of South Carolina, had traveled to the location to purchase narcotics. During the transaction, an altercation ensued between Timmons and 54-year-old Elmer Leon Spears of Fayetteville, culminating in Spears shooting Timmons. Emergency responders pronounced Timmons dead at the scene.
Spears remained at the scene following the shooting and was subsequently arrested by the Fayetteville Police Department. He was charged with first-degree murder and is currently held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
Ni'Reash Timmons was born on March 13, 1996, in Florence, South Carolina, to Nikki Player-Williams and Lamont Randy Timmons. He graduated from West Florence High School in 2014 and enlisted in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 2016. Timmons was known for his devotion to his family, particularly his daughter, Lei'Anna. He was remembered for his contagious smile, charitable nature, and love for gospel music, especially "Every Praise" by Hezekiah Walker.
A funeral service was held at Ideal Funeral Parlor in Florence, South Carolina, where family and friends gathered to honor his memory.
