Donald Dillenbeck, a 49-year-old white male from Vestal, New York, died on March 19, 2022, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. His death was the result of a violent confrontation between four rival biker gangs: the Hells Angels, Red Devils, Infamous Ryders, and La Familia. The incident occurred at the Baymont Ramada hotel located at 1707 Owen Drive. Police responded to the scene just after 8:50 p.m. on that Saturday night.
The confrontation escalated into a shooting that left three people dead and three others injured.
Donald Dillenbeck was taken to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The other victims included William Franklin Davis Sr., a 42-year-old male from Fayetteville, who died at the scene, and Keith Allan Dickey, a 37-year-old male from Lumber Bridge, who was also taken to the hospital and later died. The three injured individuals were treated at the hospital.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that it stemmed from a confrontation between the rival biker gangs. Police reviewed hundreds of hours of private security camera footage, license plate reader data, and city-owned cameras to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. Despite the extensive investigation, no arrests were made immediately following the incident.
However, two men were later arrested and charged in connection with an assault that occurred before the deadly shootout. Dalton Emmanuel Laperriere, a 26-year-old male from Clayton, faced charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and felony conspiracy. Kerry Helms Lawing, a 49-year-old male from Fayetteville, also faced charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and felony conspiracy. Lawing remained in the Cumberland County Jail with a $25,000 secured bond.
The investigation into the assault and the shootings remained ongoing, with local and federal agencies actively involved. Police urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Detective R. Vernon or Crimestoppers.
