Upon arrival, deputies discovered 44-year-old Andre' Markell Lewis lying on the roadway with a gunshot wound. He was promptly transported to Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, where he was pronounced dead.

He is survived by his children, Brianna Randolph of Buffalo, NY, Dasia Johnson of Miami, FL, and Noshakir Lewis of Raleigh; his mother, Shirley Lewis of Jacksonville; brothers, Ernest Rhodes Jr. of Maysville, Steven White of Maple Hill, and Jamir Jumoke of Wilmington; six grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service was held on July 8, 2023, at Free and Independent Apostolic Church in Jacksonville to honor his memory.
