On June 25, 2023, at approximately 4:08 p.m., the Robeson County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting in the 5100 block of Smith Mill Road near Lumberton, North Carolina. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 21-year-old Alex E. Taylor deceased from gunshot wounds. Also present was 46-year-old Nicky Jackson, who had sustained a gunshot wound.
The incident was classified as a domestic dispute that escalated into violence.
Nicky Jackson was subsequently charged with second-degree murder in connection with Taylor's death. After receiving medical treatment for his injuries, Jackson was detained in South Carolina, pending extradition to North Carolina to face the charges.
Alex Taylor was born on May 29, 2002, in Robeson County to Lillie Ann Jackson and the late Johnny Lee Blanton and Ernest Lee Taylor. He was known for his love of family and friends, as well as his passions for hunting, fishing, riding his four-wheeler, and working on trucks. Taylor was employed at Dellinger, where he took pride in his work. He is survived by his mother, sister, nieces, and other family members who remember him as a gentle soul deeply missed by all who knew him.
The Robeson County Sheriff's Office Homicide Division continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have encouraged anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
