On the night of August 24, 2023, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Roxboro Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 300 block of Jones Street in Roxboro, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 52-year-old resident Mikelle Shawn Bailey deceased from a gunshot wound.
In the immediate aftermath, authorities arrested 35-year-old Christopher Street of Roxboro, charging him with first-degree murder. He was detained in the Person County Jail without bond.
Additionally, an arrest warrant was issued for 33-year-old Demarr Johnson, also of Roxboro, on the same charge.
By August 27, 2023, Demarr Johnson was apprehended with assistance from the Person County Sheriff's Office. Both suspects were held without bond in the Person County Jail. The investigation into Bailey's death remained active, with authorities urging anyone with pertinent information to contact the Roxboro Police Department or the designated Tip Line.
