On August 31, 2023, at approximately 6:15 a.m., Greensboro Police Department officers responded to reports of an aggravated assault in the 3900 block of Overland Heights. Upon arrival, they discovered 41-year-old Devoughn Leon Carthen inside a black Toyota, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite prompt medical attention, Carthen succumbed to his injuries, and the incident was classified as a homicide.
