Stephen Nathan McKinney Jr., a 21-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on November 6, 2017, in Greensboro, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 10:50 p.m. while Stephen was visiting a friend and standing outside a home in the 1700 block of Eastwood Street. He was taken to Moses Cone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1:20 a.m.
on November 7, 2017.
The investigation revealed that a nearby home was also struck by gunfire, but no injuries were reported from that incident. Despite interviewing witnesses, the police have not identified any suspects in connection with Stephen's death. The authorities have urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers.
Stephen attended Dudley High School in Greensboro, where he was an active member of the band, the Umoja step team, and the Dudley football team. He graduated in June 2015. His untimely death has left a void in the community, and the search for justice continues as the investigation remains open.
