On the evening of July 20, 2023, at approximately 7:44 p.m., Greensboro police responded to reports of gunfire in the 1900 block of Brice Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals suffering from serious gunshot wounds, who were promptly transported to a local hospital by EMS. Subsequently, two additional gunshot victims arrived at the hospital via private vehicles.

Among the victims was 42-year-old Ronald David Green, who succumbed to his injuries, leading authorities to classify the incident as a homicide. The other victims included a 15-year-old boy, who was treated and released; a 16-year-old boy, who was hospitalized and later stabilized; and a 20-year-old man, who remained in critical condition.

Investigators determined that all individuals involved were acquainted with one another and that the shooting was drug-related. Consequently, Greensboro police announced they were not actively seeking any suspects, as there was no indication of an at-large perpetrator.

This incident contributed to a troubling rise in violence within the city. By that date, Greensboro had recorded 42 homicides in 2023, surpassing the total number of homicides for the entire previous year. Community members and local authorities expressed deep concern over the escalating violence, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to address the underlying issues contributing to such incidents.
