Joe Norman "Skipper" Parker Jr., 19, was tragically killed on August 2, 1996, in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was found shot in his truck off NC-68 near Airport Parkway. Initially, it appeared to be a traffic accident, but upon investigation, bullet holes were discovered on the vehicle, revealing a more sinister scenario. Skipper, known for his infectious energy and love for life, had been working at the UPS facility in Greensboro and had recently told his mother he planned to quit his job to return to college. Unfortunately, hours later, his life was taken.
Skipper's death remains unsolved, and despite years of investigation, the case is still open. The Greensboro Police Department has kept the case active, pursuing leads and hoping that advances in technology, such as ballistics analysis and DNA testing, could eventually bring justice. The Parker family and investigators continue to seek any information that could lead to solving the case, with a $5,000 reward offered for information that results in an arrest.
