The Robeson County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting in the early hours of Thursday, September 7, at approximately 12:51 a.m. Deputies were dispatched to the 1100 block of Old Red Springs Road, where they discovered Jalyric Jones deceased at the scene.
The incident appears to have been part of a botched robbery attempt that led to fatal consequences. During the same event, a second individual was also shot and injured. This victim was found at a separate location on the 2000 block of Red Hill Road, Maxton, and was subsequently transported to an undisclosed medical center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
In the aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement launched an extensive investigation and manhunt. By September 8, 2023, the Robeson County Sheriff's Office had made significant progress in the case. Three suspects were apprehended: Micah McIntosh, 21, Kinajhe Graham, 19, and Warren McEachin Jr., 19, all from Maxton. McIntosh was arrested at a residence on Red Hill Road, while Graham and McEachin surrendered to investigators hours later.
The three arrested individuals face a series of serious charges, including murder, two counts of attempted murder, conspiracy to robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle. They are currently being held without bond at the Robeson County Detention Center.
As of the latest reports, a fourth suspect, identified as Dekwonte Campbell, 25, remains at large. Campbell is wanted on the same charges as his alleged accomplices. The Robeson County Sheriff's Office has issued a public appeal for information regarding Campbell's whereabouts.
The investigation revealed that Jones' vehicle was stolen from the scene of the crime but has since been recovered by authorities.
