Darrell Dwayne Locklear, a 50-year-old man from Maxton, North Carolina, tragically passed away on December 22, 2022. He was born on April 5, 1972, and was well-known in his community for his charitable nature and dedication to his family. Darrell is survived by his wife Brenda Locklear, his parents Curtis Locklear and Strawdie Faye Trester, his children Kyle Locklear and Sequoia Locklear, and his grandchildren.
The circumstances surrounding Darrell's death were the result of a
pre-planned criminal act. On the night of December 22, 2022, Darrell was found suffering from a gunshot wound at his residence in Maxton. He was quickly transported to UNC Southeastern Medical Center in Lumberton, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries. The incident was determined to be an attempted robbery gone wrong.
Following the incident, a thorough investigation was launched by the Robeson County Sheriff's Office. Multiple arrests were made in connection to Darrell's murder. Kobe O. Mobley, 18, Xavier Jones, 22, and Kylerr Page were among those charged with first-degree murder, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to robbery with a dangerous weapon, and discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling. Additional suspects, including Kenyate M. Graham and Jadaruis M. Kells, were also arrested and charged with similar offenses.
The investigation remains ongoing, with law enforcement agencies continuing to search for other individuals involved in the crime. Sheriff Burnis Wilkins emphasized that the case was a pre-planned act of violence and assured the public that efforts to bring all responsible parties to justice would persist.
The Locklear family and the community have been deeply affected by Darrell's untimely death, and they continue to seek closure and justice for the loss of a beloved family man and community member.
