On October 7, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) responded to a reported assault with a deadly weapon in the 2900 block of Baltimore Avenue in southwest Charlotte. Upon arrival, they discovered 30-year-old Maurice Moore suffering from a gunshot wound. Moore was immediately transported to Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of October 8, 2023.
The investigation into Moore's death led to the arrest of three juvenile suspects. On November 27, 2023, CMPD apprehended a 13-year-old male, charging him with first-degree murder. Subsequently, on November 30, a 15-year-old male was arrested and similarly charged. The arrests continued with a 14-year-old male taken into custody on December 7, 2023, also facing a first-degree murder charge. Due to their ages, the identities of the suspects have not been publicly disclosed.
Authorities have not released specific details regarding the motive behind the shooting or the relationship between Moore and the suspects. The arrests were made without incident, and all three juveniles have been transferred to the custody of the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
