James Pennington, a 61-year-old White man who worked as a building engineer in Honolulu, was discovered dead on November 23, 1990, in an unoccupied office space inside his workplace at 220 South King Street. The scene carried a blunt finality: Pennington had severe head injuries, and he was pronounced dead where he was found.
