In the early hours of October 28, 2023, at approximately 3:59 a.m., Fayetteville Police Department officers responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired in the 1700 block of Pamalee Drive in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 46-year-old Sterling Koren Whitted suffering from gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a large gathering was taking place at a residence on Pamalee Drive when multiple shots were fired, resulting in Whitted's death. Later that day, a vehicle owner reported that his car, present during the incident, had been struck by gunfire, though he remained unharmed. Authorities have urged anyone in the area during the shooting, or those who may have experienced property damage or minor injuries, to contact Detective Berrios at (910) 703-6243.
Less than an hour after Whitted's death, another fatal shooting occurred approximately three miles away, in the 3000 block of Tamarack Drive, where 41-year-old Garon Webb was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the proximity and timing of these incidents, police have stated they have no reason to believe the two shootings are connected at this time.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with Whitted's death.
