On November 4, 2023, at approximately 12:44 a.m., Greensboro police responded to reports of a shooting in the 3000 block of Lawndale Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered 41-year-old Ivy Gray and her 22-year-old daughter, Kaile McLean, suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries, prompting a homicide investigation.
Witnesses at the scene provided authorities with descriptions of the suspect and his vehicle. A responding officer spotted a vehicle matching the description near Cone Boulevard and Church Street and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Justin Lyons, fled, leading police on a pursuit. The chase concluded when Lyons lost control of his vehicle and collided with a utility pole at Yanceyville Street and Rankin Road. He was apprehended and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Lyons has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Gray and McLean. Authorities have indicated that additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues. The relationship between Lyons and the victims has not been publicly disclosed.
