On November 11, 2023, Robert Nelson was found with a gunshot wound to the abdomen off Chase High Road in Forest City, North Carolina. He was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries several days later.
Following an investigation, the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office presented evidence to a Grand Jury on January 22, 2024. The Grand Jury issued a true bill of indictment against 35-year-old William Arthur Steele of Spartanburg, charging him with second-degree murder.
