Marcus O'Neill Hill, a 32-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on May 29, 2021, in Forest City, North Carolina. The incident occurred late Saturday night in the Dogwood Lane area, where an exchange of gunfire took place. When the Forest City Police Department responded to the disturbance just before 11 p.m., they discovered Hill injured from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save him, Hill succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation quickly identified 38-year-old Jeremy Lee Brown, a resident of Rutherfordton, as the primary suspect. Brown was taken into custody without incident, thanks to the collaboration of several law enforcement agencies, including the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, N.C. State Highway Patrol, and the Rutherfordton Police Department. Brown was charged with first-degree murder and two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon. He is currently being held at the Rutherford County Detention Center without bond.
The Forest City Police Department has urged anyone with information that may assist in the ongoing investigation to contact Sergeant Moore. The case remains under active investigation as authorities continue to gather evidence and seek additional information.
