On November 16, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m., 25-year-old photographer Kadeem Cole Lamont was fatally shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Villa Court in Charlotte, North Carolina. Originally from Georgia, Lamont was in Charlotte for business at the time of the incident.
Upon arrival, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers found Lamont deceased at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound. The suspect had fled prior to their arrival.
The investigation was immediately initiated by CMPD's Homicide Unit, with Crime Scene Search collecting physical evidence, and support from Operations Command, Victim Services, MEDIC, and the Charlotte Fire Department.
Nearly a month later, on December 12, 2023, authorities arrested 18-year-old Tyvon Dunlap in Greenville, South Carolina. The arrest was a collaborative effort involving CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and the Greenville County Sheriff's Office. Dunlap was charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection to Lamont's death. Following his arrest, Dunlap awaited extradition to Mecklenburg County Jail.
The investigation into Lamont's death remains active and ongoing. CMPD continues to seek information from the public to aid in the case.
