On December 14, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m., a fatal shooting occurred in the 2300 block of Apex Landing Way in Charlotte, North Carolina. Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon and discovered two male victims with gunshot wounds. Both individuals were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries; one of them, identified as 18-year-old Jah’Zir Elijah Jackson, was later pronounced deceased.
The investigation revealed that the incident involved a shootout between two groups: one inside a vehicle and the other on foot near the Avion Point apartment complex. Detectives determined that the groups exchanged gunfire, leading to the injuries sustained by Jackson and the other victim, who survived after receiving medical treatment.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, CMPD detectives charged 18-year-old Al-Terrik Bogar in connection with the shooting. Bogar faces charges including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, attempted murder, and discharging a firearm into occupied property for his actions during the incident. Authorities have notified Jackson's next of kin about the arrest. CMPD stated that they are not currently seeking additional suspects, though the investigation remains active and ongoing.
