On the evening of January 13, 2023, at approximately 7:03 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to reports of a shooting at the Addison Park Apartments on Hackberry Creek Trail in north Charlotte, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 28-year-old Ali Rashid suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking lot. Emergency medical services transported Rashid to a nearby hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead.
Ali Rashid was a dedicated employee at Atrium Health and a father to young children. His untimely death left his family and the community in deep mourning.
Following an intensive investigation, CMPD detectives identified 28-year-old Quintin Shipp as the primary suspect in Rashid's murder. On January 18, 2023, officers from CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, with assistance from the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, located Shipp at a residence in Troutman, North Carolina. He was arrested without incident. Subsequently, Shipp was charged with murder, robbery, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
The motive behind the shooting has not been publicly disclosed by authorities. Shipp's prior felony record prohibited him from legally possessing a firearm, adding gravity to the charges against him.
The tragic loss of Ali Rashid has had a profound impact on his family, friends, and colleagues at Atrium Health. As the legal process unfolds, the community continues to seek justice for Rashid, remembering him as a devoted father and hardworking individual whose life was abruptly taken.
