Upon arrival, they discovered 35-year-old Rashawn Lamonte Thompson, a Black male from Maxton, North Carolina, deceased from a gunshot wound.
The suspected shooter, also a resident of Maxton, surrendered to the Laurinburg Police Department immediately following the incident. As of the latest available information, the suspect's identity has not been publicly disclosed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Rashawn Lamonte Thompson was born on November 6, 1988, and resided in Maxton, North Carolina. He is survived by his mother, Sara Thompson; his daughter, Kaziah Rhaja Watson; his son, Rashawn Lamonte Thompson Jr.; his brothers, Kendrick Thompson and Bryan Braddy; and his sisters, Samara Johnson-VanKirk and JaKima Thompson. A visitation was held on January 20, 2024, at S & L Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Maxton, followed by a Celebration of Life service on January 21, 2024, at Townsend Middle School.
