On January 7, 2024, at approximately 11:18 a.m., the Harnett County 911 Center received reports of shots fired near Winding Ridge in the Carolina Hills subdivision, located about seven miles south of Sanford, North Carolina. Deputies arrived on the scene at 11:25 a.m. and discovered 46-year-old Anthony Antonio Washington Sr. deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
The Harnett County Sheriff's Office quickly identified 31-year-old Tahmeer Mykail Jones as a suspect in the shooting.
Jones was reportedly seen fleeing the scene on foot immediately after the incident. Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of first-degree murder.
Subsequent investigations led to Jones's apprehension in St. Johns County, Florida, around 12:30 a.m. on January 8, 2024. The Harnett County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Jones would be extradited back to North Carolina to face the charges against him.
