On the evening of February 24, 2024, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Sanford Police responded to a reported shooting at 800 Primrose Lane in Sanford, North Carolina. Upon arrival, officers discovered 20-year-old Tyrese Marquel Wicker lying on the front porch stairs, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Personnel attempted life-saving measures; however, Wicker was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the early hours of February 25, 2024, around 2:30 a.m., Sanford Police arrested 19-year-old Jackson Brown Chesney of Sanford in connection with Wicker's death. Chesney was charged with murder and taken into custody at the Lee County Jail without bond. Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the circumstances leading to the shooting or the evidence implicating Chesney.
