On January 26, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., deputies from the Wilson County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of gunshots near the 5700 block of Woodside Drive/U.S. Highway 264 Alternate East in Wilson, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 38-year-old Michael Deontte Mitchell lying in the roadway.
