Upon arrival, they found 33-year-old Devin Rashad Jeter suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting resulted from an altercation between Devin Jeter and the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Sammy Lee Jeter. The two individuals were known to each other, and the dispute escalated, leading to multiple shots being fired. On February 26, 2024, CMPD arrested Sammy Lee Jeter, charging him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail under a $350,000 bond.
