On April 7, 2024, at approximately 7:00 p.m., 21-year-old Xeniel Yhamil Baez was fatally shot in the 2600 block of Druid Hills Way in Charlotte, North Carolina. Upon arrival, officers discovered Baez with an apparent gunshot wound; he was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Baez was a recent father; his son, Xeniel Rey Baez, was born on March 29, 2024. Originally from Puerto Rico, Baez moved to New York City in 2007 before relocating to Charlotte.
He was known as a young artist with a caring and loving nature, deeply cherished by his family and friends.
As of December 22, 2024, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's investigation into Baez's death remains active and ongoing. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
