On May 3, 2024, at approximately 1:19 a.m., Wilmington Police Department officers responded to a ShotSpotter notification in the 400 block of McRae Street. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. The first victim, identified as 23-year-old Wilmington resident Jac’qual Goodman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, 42-year-old Timothy McMillian, also from Wilmington, was found a short distance away.
He was transported to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
In the aftermath of the incident, the Wilmington Police Department launched a homicide investigation. Detectives appealed to the public for any information that could assist in identifying the perpetrator(s). Despite these efforts, as of December 24, 2024, no arrests have been reported, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the deaths of McMillian and Goodman. The case remains unsolved, with authorities continuing to seek leads to bring those responsible to justice.
