On June 10, 2024, at approximately 4:42 p.m., deputies from the Robeson County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Highway 83 and Highway 130 in Maxton, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 38-year-old Brandon Strickland of Rowland suffering from a gunshot wound. Strickland was immediately transported to UNC Southeastern Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
