On June 23, 2024, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 9000 block of Faires Road in east Charlotte, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 24-year-old Joemanie Sweeney suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
CMPD homicide detectives swiftly initiated an investigation, leading to the identification and arrest of 50-year-old Jarrette Page on the same day. Page was transported to the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown Charlotte, where he was interviewed by detectives. Following the interview, he was charged with first-degree murder and transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
The relationship between Sweeney and Page, as well as the motive behind the shooting, has not been publicly disclosed.
