On July 17, 2024, a tragic shooting occurred in Greenville, North Carolina, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Terrance Harrell. The incident took place shortly before 6 p.m. in the 900 block of South Memorial Drive. According to reports, the suspects exited their vehicle and fired into another car that was stopped in traffic, which had four occupants. None of the individuals involved were present when law enforcement arrived at the scene.
Minutes after the shooting, officers stopped a vehicle matching the description of the suspects' car in the parking lot of a Food Lion on Easy Street. The two occupants, identified as 19-year-old Kiheim Roman Perkins and 24-year-old Kenyon Fowlkes, were taken into custody, and firearms were confiscated from the vehicle. Meanwhile, Harrell arrived at ECU Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds and passed away a few hours later.
Perkins and Fowlkes were charged with murder, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, three counts of attempted first-degree murder, and three counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property inflicting serious bodily injury. Both were held at the Pitt County Detention Center. Initial findings suggest that the shooting was a targeted attack resulting from a previous altercation between the individuals in the two vehicles. The investigation remains ongoing.
