On April 15, 2024, in Greenville, North Carolina, 23-year-old Jahsijah Montejah Jahson was fatally shot. Police responded to reports of gunfire around 4:30 p.m. near West 3rd Street and White Street, where they found Jahson in the yard of a residence on the 1000 block of West 3rd Street, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted incident.
In the days following the homicide, law enforcement identified and apprehended two suspects. On April 17, 2024, officers arrested 21-year-old Zy’quan Malik Johnson of Walstonburg, North Carolina, in Rocky Mount. Johnson was charged with Jahson's murder and detained in the Edgecombe County Jail. Subsequently, authorities sought a second suspect, 19-year-old Jah’Quore Connor of Farmville, North Carolina. Connor was considered armed and dangerous, prompting a public appeal for information regarding his whereabouts.
Connor was located and arrested on May 8, 2024, in Marietta, Georgia. He had barricaded himself inside a residence but was taken into custody following a coordinated effort by the Greenville Police Department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and local Georgia law enforcement agencies. Connor was subsequently extradited to Pitt County, North Carolina, where he faced charges including murder, with a court date scheduled for June 12, 2024.
The arrests of Johnson and Connor marked significant developments in the investigation into Jahson's death. Both suspects were charged with murder, and the legal proceedings were set to continue as the community awaited justice for the loss of Jahsijah Montejah Jahson.
