On August 1, 2024, at approximately 8 a.m., Winston-Salem police responded to a security check in the 1900 block of Leight Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 32-year-old Barry Bevionta Richardson inside a vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services pronounced him dead at the scene.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide by the Winston-Salem Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division.
Authorities have indicated that this does not appear to be a random act of violence.
As of now, there have been no arrests or publicly identified suspects in connection with Richardson's death. The investigation remains active, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Barry Richardson was a resident of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, born on June 25, 1992. He was an entrepreneur who operated his own landscaping and yard work business. He is survived by his parents, Twilla Greer and Raymond Richardson Sr., as well as several siblings and extended family members.
A homegoing service was held on August 10, 2024, at Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, where family and friends gathered to honor his memory.
