On August 2, 2024, at approximately 9:17 a.m., officers from the Goldsboro Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at 308 N. Kornegay Street in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 23-year-old Nymirra J. Bynum inside the residence, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene, but Bynum was pronounced deceased.
The Goldsboro Police Department's Investigative Services Bureau and Crime Scene Unit were contacted and responded to the incident. Initial investigations indicated that the shooting was the result of a domestic altercation involving Bynum and a known male offender. The case was quickly classified as a domestic homicide by the authorities.
In the days following the incident, law enforcement identified a suspect in connection with Bynum's death. Jaalin Dasani Applewhite, a 21-year-old resident of Goldsboro, was named as the primary suspect and was wanted for murder in relation to this incident.
