On the evening of August 4, 2024, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Greensboro Police, Fire, and Guilford County EMS responded to a reported shooting at Boston’s House of Jazz, located at 1011 Arnold Street in Greensboro, North Carolina. Upon arrival, officers discovered 44-year-old African American male, Teldrekus D. Young, unresponsive on the sidewalk in front of the establishment, suffering from trauma consistent with gunshot wounds. Despite prompt medical attention, Mr.
Young was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported that Mr. Young was inside the club when security personnel and a valet attendant approached him, requesting that he move his vehicle. This request is puzzling, considering the purpose of valet parking is to manage vehicle arrangements on behalf of patrons. As Mr. Young exited the club to address the situation, a car reportedly stopped in the middle of Arnold Street, and three individuals emerged, pursuing and fatally shooting him with assault rifles. The assailants' ability to park in the roadway and carry out the attack raises concerns about the absence of security measures. Regular patrons have noted that multiple security personnel and, at times, a police officer are typically present outside the venue, especially during closing hours. Their absence during this critical moment is alarming.
The identity of the woman who allegedly prompted the request for Mr. Young to move his car remains unknown. No descriptions or camera footage of her have been made available, leading to speculation about her involvement. Additionally, reports suggest that individuals in the vicinity have been discouraged from sharing their surveillance footage, despite the presence of numerous cameras that could have captured the incident. The lack of eyewitness accounts is also perplexing, given that there were people outside the club at the time, and the perpetrators' vehicle reportedly drove past the entrance after the shooting.
In the months following the incident, the Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers listed the case among their unsolved homicides. A cash reward of up to $50,000 was offered for information leading to the arrest or indictment of those responsible for the death of Mr. Young.
Prior to his death, Mr. Young had a history of legal issues. On June 22, 2024, he was arrested in Guilford County on multiple charges, including second-degree kidnapping, assault inflicting serious bodily injury, and possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance. He was released from custody on December 23, 2020, after serving time for a manslaughter conviction dating back to 2013.
As of February 2025, the case remains unsolved. Authorities continue to seek assistance from the public, encouraging anyone with information to come forward to help bring closure to the family of Mr. Young and ensure justice is served.
