On October 22, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in Maiden, North Carolina, resulting in the deaths of 61-year-old Cynthia Marie "Cyndi" Cox, her husband, 61-year-old Charles Kevin Cox, and their daughter, 28-year-old Jenna Lynn Cox. The family was found deceased in their home on PJ McRee Road, each having suffered fatal gunshot wounds. A 10-year-old boy, identified as Jenna's son, was present during the incident but escaped unharmed.
He sought help by running to a neighbor's house immediately after the shootings.
Law enforcement authorities quickly identified 27-year-old Issac Nathaniel Christenbury as the primary suspect. Christenbury, who had previously been in a romantic relationship with Jenna Cox, is believed to have acted alone, with the motive reportedly stemming from a dispute between him and Jenna. After the incident, Christenbury contacted 911 to turn himself in and was subsequently arrested in Lincoln County. He has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and is currently held without bond in the Catawba County Detention Facility. His initial court appearance took place on October 23, 2024, with a probable cause hearing scheduled for November 12, 2024.
The Maiden community has been deeply affected by this tragedy. A candlelight vigil was held at Malorie’s Place Peer Support Center, where friends, family, and neighbors gathered to honor the victims and support the surviving family members. The 10-year-old survivor was present at the vigil, receiving comfort from attendees. Neighbors and community members have expressed profound sorrow and are rallying to provide ongoing support to the young boy and other affected family members during this difficult time.
