On October 23, 2024, at approximately 3:45 p.m., 25-year-old Carlos Leiva was fatally shot in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred in the 1100 block of Oaklawn Avenue, where Leiva was found inside an SUV that had crashed and caught fire. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
Leiva's family revealed that he had just begun his shift as a Lyft driver when the shooting took place.
His brother, Daniel Davilla, suspects that Leiva was targeted in a carjacking attempt due to his newer vehicle. Davilla believes that Leiva tried to escape but was shot in the chest, leading to the crash and subsequent fire.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has not released any information regarding potential suspects. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
