On the night of November 10, 2024, Brittany Marie Carmichael, a 33-year-old resident of Lumberton, North Carolina, was fatally shot in a residence on Clarkton Court in Stedman. At approximately 10 p.m., while she was asleep beside her boyfriend, William Dean, unknown assailants fired into the bedroom window. Dean, who was awake at the time, noticed individuals outside the window and attempted to confront them before they opened fire.
Shattered glass injured Dean, and a bullet struck Carmichael near her right hip. Despite immediate medical attention, she succumbed to her injuries the following day at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Carmichael's death has left her family and community in mourning. She is survived by her 13-year-old son and her boyfriend, who had planned to propose during an upcoming trip to Puerto Rico to celebrate her 35th birthday.
