Isaiah Keion Chestnutt, a 17-year-old African American male from Cameron, North Carolina, tragically lost his life on February 15, 2022. Isaiah was found shot inside a stolen car that was set on fire. The incident occurred after a drive-by shooting in Cameron, where shots were fired into a home along N.C. Highway 27. Fortunately, no one inside the home was injured.
Isaiah was taken to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Harnett County Sheriff's Office conducted an investigation and determined that Isaiah was shot in the head by someone inside the car. His brother, Jaquon Ray Chestnutt, an 18-year-old African American male, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, three counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, felony conspiracy, and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Two other juveniles who were in the car at the time of the incident were also charged and taken to a juvenile detention facility.
The investigation revealed that the car, a 2006 silver Nissan Altima, had been reported stolen from a store in Sanford the day before the incident. The drive-by shooting and subsequent events led to the tragic death of Isaiah Keion Chestnutt, leaving his family and community in mourning.
