Quentin Orlando Belk, a 32-year-old male, was tragically shot in Cameron, North Carolina, on December 29, 2018. The incident occurred at a home on Helen Lane, where Belk suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He was airlifted to UNC Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on December 30, 2018. A female victim, who was also shot in the neck, survived the attack and was later released from the hospital.
The investigation into Belk's death led to the arrest of multiple suspects.
Kenneth Jerome Hobbs, Sr., a 51-year-old male from Fayetteville, was charged in connection with the shooting. He became the third person to be charged in the case. Robert Lee Gillespie, a 54-year-old male from Cameron, and George Bernhardt Rodrick Jr., a 37-year-old male from Fayetteville, were also arrested. Gillespie was charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, while Rodrick faced charges of attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. After Belk's death, one of Rodrick's attempted murder charges was upgraded to murder.
The suspects were held without bail in the Moore County Detention Center. The investigation revealed that the shooting was not a random act of violence, but rather a targeted attack. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but the arrests and charges indicate a concerted effort by law enforcement to bring justice to Belk and his family.
