In the days following Christmas of 2015, a tragic and violent series of events unfolded in Memphis, Tennessee, culminating in the death of 26-year-old Lakeyel Hurd. On December 29th, Hurd was temporarily residing with a friend in an apartment in the Hickory Ridge area. Her ex-boyfriend, Antonio R. Davis, appeared at the residence, forcing his way inside by shooting through a sliding glass door. The initial shot struck Hurd in the abdomen.
